"Adaptation of Anglicisms in the Russian Language (A Case Study of Words Selfmade, Handmade, Must Read, Must Have) "

: This article analyzes the process of embedding anglicisms into the
Russian language. The studied anglicisms are formed from a combination
of modal and notional verbs or a noun-verb combination. These words are
used by active Internet users, business elites, show business representatives,
etc. The borrowings are of interest because they might be formed through
lexicalization. In the source language the boundary between a word and a
word combination is fragile. Therefore, it is diffi cult to determine whether
lexicalization has occurred in the English language or in the recipient one.
Peculiarities of word formation determine the specifi cs of their semantics
and grammatical characteristics (fl uctuations of morphological categories and syntactic functions). Lexicographic description of these units is also
challenging. The lack of unifi ed spelling and a small derivational paradigm
show that the borrowed words are at the stage of development. In the English and Russian languages they are used in different spheres: in English
they are general language words; in Russian they are used in a limited number of settings.
