Abstract:

The author shares memories of his face-to-face meetings with three remarkable members of the Chukovsky family belonging to three different
generations — Kornei Ivanovich, a world famous children’s writer, literary critic and translator, his daughter, Lydia Korneevna, and his granddaughter, Elena Tsezarovna (also known as Liusha). The reader will learn how K. I. Chukovsky’s letters with commentaries were prepared for publication, how the fight for Chukovsky’s house in Peredelkino was fought (it took quite a while for it to become a museum). The author also tells us how he took part in safekeeping of A. I. Solzhenitsyn’s archive and in distribution of his manuscripts.
